What is the meaning of the word Singh?

It means "lion" and it was introduced by the Sikh Gurus to eradicate the practice of casteism, though today castes and discrimination based on castes still exists amongst Sikhs. All Sikhs were encouraged to accept Singh as their last name, though not all Singhs are Sikhs. People belonging to the Rajput and some other communities also use Singh as their last name.
Singh comes from the sankskrit word Nsringhadeva, literally translating to Lion.
Singh is an nickname and mane found in sikhs names. It means lion or tiger. It reminds the world of the sacrifices and bravery of the Sikh Gurus.
it also means king

Thanks for sharing Miss Kaur,
Apart from the Rajputs and the Sikhs, several other groups in India have also adopted Singh as either a middle name or a surname. Some others include the Yadavs (e.g. "Mulayam Singh Yadav"), Bhumiyar Brahmins, the Gujjars (e.g. "Kuldip Singh Chandpuri"), and the HinduJats (e.g. "Chadhary Charan Singh and Maharaja Bhim Singh Rana").
Singh is often used the traditional way, by having it as the middle name after the first name and followed by the clan/family name by many communities, groups & peoples. For example, "Yogendra Singh Yadav", "Bhupinder Singh Hooda", "Mahendra Singh Dhoni", and "Bhairon Singh Shekhawat"). Sikh examples include, "Jassa Singh Ahluwalia" (Commander-in-Chief of the Khalsa army), "Jassa Singh Ramgarhia" & "Hari Singh Nalwa" (General of Khalsa army). Thus Singh can be used as a middle name before the individual's surname, a common practice among many groups in India e.g. Jassa Singh Ahluwalia (Pattern, 1: First Name, 2: Singh, 3: Family name). Singh is also used as a surname (for example, "Manmohan Singh", "Vijay Singh", and "Ashley Singh").

I read about this immigration issue. Do anybody know about this whether its right or not???
Immigration issues: Common surname

A section of around a million adherents of Sikhism that live abroad in Western countries only keep Singh or Kaur as their last name. This has caused legal problems in immigration procedures especially in Canada with Canadian High Commission in New Delhi, India for a decade stating in letters to its Sikh clients "the names Kaur and Singh do not qualify for the purpose of immigration to Canada" people with these common Sikh surnames have to change their last names before coming to Canada.

any one know meaning of KAUR??????????????
In 1699, Sikh Women were given the last name 'Kaur' and and Men 'Singh' by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. This initiate intended to end the caste system, social stratification and much of the apparatus of Hindu ritual and legalism. In Indian society, an individual's name reveals his or her caste, and Sikhs were freed from the caste system by having all men incorporate Singh in their names and all women, Kaur :wah. Based on the premises of gender equality, Kaur was also given to Sikh Women to establish an identity independent of their father or husband. :so

The literal meaning of the word 'Kaur' is Prince (not Princess). It is a derivative of the Sanskrit word 'Kanwar' meaning Prince.:y

Guru Gobind Singh Ji said,

"You don’t have to take anybody else's name. You are an individual, you are the equivalent of a prince, and you keep Kaur as your given name.":pr

"You are my beloved, my daughters. You must be respected. How can this world be without you?".:pr

Kaur provides Sikh women with a status equal to all men. :wThis was also intended to reduce the prejudice created by caste-typing based on the family name.:thappar
