Charges framed in German gangrape

Additional District and Sessions Judge RS Attri, today framed charges against Manvir Singh Jolly, Pankaj Punia, Harpreet Singh Dalli, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi and Sompal in the German tourist gangrape case.
During the arguments of the case, counsel for the victim placed on record the statement of the German tourist that she had made before the German embassy. According to the statement, the victim had stated that she was raped by the accused.
While the court also framed charges under Sections 471 and 473 of the IPC that deals with fraudulently using genuine documents and making or possessing counterfeit seal against Pankaj Punia. Meanwhile, the police moved an application before the court seeking for a translator for recording the statement of the tourist.
The case has been adjourned to January 16.
The defence counsel contested that the victim had not made any such statement that she had been raped by the accused and they could not be booked for the offence. There are 42 witnesses in the case. The police might submit a supplementary challan after the statement of the victim, who is in Germany, is recorded. As per a report submitted by Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) experts, the DNA profiles obtained from the stains on the victim’s skirt establish the involvement of the accused.
