Dr. E. Balagurusamy, presently the Vice Chancellor of Anna University holds a doctorate in Systems Engineering. He also serves as the Honorary Chairman of the Governing Council of Mahaveer Academy of Technology and Sciences, Bangalore. He was also the founder Director of PSG institution of Management at Coimbatore for six years, advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government for 10 years and the Chairman, EBG Foundation, Bangalore. He has devoted himself to promoting computer education and training in the country for the last two decades.As an advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government during 1980’s and early 1990’s, he took computer education to rural masses by setting up IT training and education centres in major towns of the state. Also, he initiated many steps to implement IT applications in government administration and public undertakings. He also served as a consultant to Punjab and Rajasthan Governments on Science and Technology Development.
Dr. Balagurusamy has established a large number of institutions and computer centres and serves on the boards of a number of universities and organisations, both in India and abroad. He continues to serve as a consultant to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation on expert systems since 1991.
A prolific writer, he has authored more than twenty-five books on IT and computers, many of them have been used as texts in universities and colleges throughout India. He is a proud recipient of many awards and honours. To mention a few: Chancellor’s Best PG Student Award, Khosla Research Award, Distinguished Leadership Award, Man of the Year Award, Outstanding Fellow Award of Institution of Engineers, etc.
Dr. Balagurusamy is known for his philosophy that “skill-based teaching begin with those skilled in teaching”. A strong patriot, he says that our IT talent should be retained within the country to help develop Indian industry and economy. Simplicity and integrity are the hallmarks of his success. He believes in the dictum “Success does not mean the absence of failures it means the attainment of ultimate objectives. It means winning the war, not every battle”.
In recognition of his services and accomplishments, he has been listed in the Directory of International Who’s Who of Intellectuals (UK) and the Directory of Distinguished Leaders (USA). His areas of interests include Object-Oriented Technology, Expert Systems, Total Quality Management, Business Process Reengineering, Technology Management, E-Business, Reliability Engineering, Management of Change and Strategic Management.
